Q: What is the deadline for signups?
A: The deadline is August 15th.
Q: What happens if I sign up after the deadline?
A: The player may be placed on the waitlist, with no guarantee of being placed on a team unless there are spots available. There is a $10 late fee added after July 15th.
Q: What are the age divisions?
A: The age divisions are as follows: Age on Dec 31 of current year
|U6||5 - Before 8/1 of current season|
Limits: No one younger than 5 years of age and or older than 18 years of age as of August 1st of the current year.
All players must participate in the appropriate age group, NO EXCEPTIONS.
Q: When does practice start?
A: Practices starts in August. This may be later depending on the coaches availability.
Q: What should the player bring to practice or games?
A: Players must show up to practices and games with required equipment: soccer ball, shin guards and, cleats or appropriate footwear.
Q: What size soccer ball does my child need:
U6 - U8: Size 3
U10 - U12: Size 4
U14: Size 5
Q: When will I hear from the coach?
A: After the teams are formed in August. The coach will contact the parents of players with their practice schedule.
Q: Where is practice?
A: Practice location depends on the coach and field availability. Coaches pick their preferred field if available.
Q: How many practices are there and what time?
A: Generally practice is only 1 or 2 times per week, which day and the time is determined by the coach. For younger players, practice is around 45 minutes, for older players up to 1.5 hours.
Q: When do the games start, how many and how long does the season last?
A: Games start mid way through September. Each schedule typically has 8-10 games over 8 weeks. If games are postponed due to weather, these will be made up if there is field availability.
Q: How many games are there per week?
A: Usually there are 1-2 games per week.
Q: How do I get a game schedule?
A: The coach is responsible for furnishing schedules to players and parents. There will also be a game schedule posted on the VBR Star Recreation Web Page.
Q: What if it is raining during practice?
A: Your coach is responsible for contacting players and canceling practice due to inclement weather.
Game Cancelations: In the event of rain, coaches and parents may call the Game Cancellation Hotline at (540) 853-1196 and information will be given as to the status of the games that day/night. Hotline will be updated by 4:00 p.m. on weekdays or 7:30 a.m. on weekends.
After 4:00 p.m., playability of the field will be determined by the umpires at the field. The decision of the umpire will be final. If the first game of the night is canceled due to weather, the second game of the night will also be canceled.
VBR Star Soccer Club began in 1986 with the aim to become the premier youth soccer club in the Roanoke Valley. Over the course of 35 years, it has grown to over 1200 kids and 52 travel teams, competing in some of the top youth soccer leagues on the east coast, ECNL - Regional League and NPL.
